Alabama safety Deionte Thompson won’t be participating in any on-field drills at the 2019 NFL Scouting Combine on Monday in Indianapolis because of a recent surgery on his injured wrist. The All-American explained what happened and why he underwent surgery prior to the Combine. “It was just a freak accident in the weight room, ” Thompson said Sunday. “Lifting heavy weight, I felt a pop and that was that. I went and got an MRI and said it was a torn ligament. I decided to attack surgery early. I didn’t want to come to the Combine and be 50-to-60 percent. It was very important to me that I took care of this matter as quickly as possible, and that’s exactly what I did.” Thompson said he plans to begin the rehab process Tuesday, March 5, and hopes to be back to 100-percent health in time for Alabama’s make-up Pro Day on April 2. .

Its first Pro Day is March 19. Sporting a cast on his right hand in Indianapolis, Thompson didn’t allow his inability to take part in drills at Lucas Oil Stadium affect him mentally or emotionally ahead of April’s 2019 NFL Draft. “Everything happens for a reason, ” Thompson said. “I didn’t get too down on it. Everything happens for a reason. It’s a blessing in disguise. I just attacked it with a level head and just look forward to what’s next. .
